janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 news. >>> a stolen truck burst into flames overnight and then the fire spread to a nearby commercial building. it happened just after midnight on claire street in oakland. ktvu channel 2 reporter lorraine blanco is live with the very latest on the police investigation into the fire that sent one person to the hospital. dramatic flames too. lorraine. >> reporter: yeah. those flames were dramatic. the owner of the building was out here this morning. he was surveying the damage. he says he's still in shock. we can see quite a mess here this morning. there is an insurance company out here. they will be boarding this up later today on the corner of claire street and railroad avenue. here's a look at the huge flames you were talking about. this is exclusive video you will only see on 2. that prompted the battalion chief to call two alarms just before 1:00 a.m.. a security guard was inside. he suffered smoke inhalation but expected to be okay this morning. neighbors credit firefighters for saving their neighborhood early this morning. >> there was flames shooti

've talked to by telephone on ktvu channel 2 news at a #50k and 6:00, they've all been so calm and de scribing it sort of as a very methodical thing happening there. >> well, sadly because of the increased violence on campus and the like, we have recently had active campus shooter from exercises for our campus police, and ironically announced they concluded very recently which involved obviously the students on each of our two campuses t. -- we have an emergency voiceover system that can immediately reach the classrooms and officers throughout the campus, and we also have access to text messaging, which is one of the fastest ways to communicate with students via their cell phones. e-mail messaging is a little slower, but we utilize that, as well. >> okay. chancellor, is there anything else you'd like to add about this developing situation while we have you with us. >> obviously we're all extremely saddened and still mourning from the tragedy in connecticut and violence on our campuses needs to be curtailed. we need to get behind from my perspective the president's call for looking at

and pam. >>> we do begin with breaking news at a fire. ktvu channel 2 reporter janine de la vega joins us now from the scene. janine de la vega is down there at the scene. we will check in with her in a moment. >>> meantime oakland police are searching for the person who abandoned a stolen truck caught fire causing a nearby fire to also go up in flames. and ktvu channel 2 reporter lorraine blanco is there with more information on who was injured and video of the huge flames. lorraine. >> reporter: good morning. investigators are looking for the person who started that fire and they are also looking for the person who stole that vehicle. you can see behind me the amount of wreckage left here this morning. we also notice there are security cameras out here. police will be checking that out. firefighters arrived just after midnight to find the car fully engulfed. they called it two alarms just after 1:00 a.m. here. there was one person inside the building during that fire. >> it was a security guard that was inside. our crews brought hem out. he was treated for smoke inhalation and transport
